I’m Late!

Sorry, but I’m posting this late.  I let the beginning of February get away from me.

And unfortunately, not only did I miss the first OCC meeting of the year, thanks to a wonderful family visit, but I won’t be at this month’s meeting either.

Why?  Well, I’ll be in New York City that weekend at the Dog Writers Association of America’s seminar and awards event.  My first Barkery & Biscuits Mystery BITE THE BISCUIT is a finalist in the fiction category for the Maxwell Awards presented by the DWAA.  I’ve got some fierce competition, but whether or not I win I’m thrilled to be a finalist.  Plus, I look forward to meeting even more people who love to write about dogs.

The event is on Valentine’s Day.  Guess I won’t be spending a special and romantic day with my husband this year, but he fortunately understands.

So–will I be at the March meeting?  I certainly hope so!  I miss OCC this year.  And I have registered for RWA National in San Diego in July, so I’m sure I’ll see a lot of you there, too.

In any event, have a wonderful Valentine’s Day–a very special holiday to all of us who write romances.

Happy New Year!

January 6, 2016 by in category Pets, Romance & Lots of Suspense by Linda O. Johnston tagged as , , , ,
Well, I’m sorry to say that I’ll probably miss the first OCC meeting of the year this weekend, but I’m not sorry for the reason: the post-holiday arrival of more family, including my grandsons!

Last month I mentioned here that I was writing a Harlequin Romantic Suspense novel, COVERT ALLIANCE, which will be published in August 2016, a sequel to my Identity Division book COVERT ATTRACTION.  I sent it off to the editor early this week.  I also mentioned that I was about to republish one of my backlist books, a time travel romance called THE BALLAD OF JACK O’DAIR, on Kindle.  It was available then and now for preorder and will be available on January 25.  And right now, I’ve started working on my third Barkery & Biscuits Mystery, but with family around suspect I won’t have a lot of time to write for at least a couple of weeks.

It’s all a great start to 2016, and I’m looking forward to more fun–as well as keeping busy.  And hopefully getting to lots of future chapter meetings.

And let me take this opportunity to wish the same to you.  Happy New Year, and I hope you keep as busy as you want with whatever you want to keep you busy!

Year Ending Soon!

Last month, my blog heading was that this year was going fast.  And now it’s a month later–the last month of 2015.  Talk about going fast!

I’ve been busy, and there’s a lot going on.  I’m writing away, currently working on a Harlequin Romantic Suspense novel, COVERT ALLIANCE, which will be published in August 2016, a sequel to my Identity Division book COVERT ATTRACTION.  I’m also about to republish one of my backlist books, a time travel romance called THE BALLAD OF JACK O’DAIR, on Kindle–and it’s available now for preorder!  Check it out–it’s got a curious heroine who’ll do anything to learn the end of a ballad about a brave hero and winds up going back in time to the Alaskan gold rush, where she meets him and his wolf-dog Taku.  If you’ve known me that long, maybe you’ll recall the print version.

I’m looking forward to this month’s OCC meeting, as always.  Once again it’ll be a quandary whether to attend PAW or stay for the regular meeting.  The morning session is about writing contracts, and I’ve always loved contracts… even though my law license is currently inactive.

So, I hope to see you there this month, too.

Year Going Fast

November 6, 2015 by in category Pets, Romance & Lots of Suspense by Linda O. Johnston tagged as ,
As I indicated in last month’s blog, I wasn’t able to attend the OCC Birthday Bash.  Sounds as if it was lots of fun even without me–as I anticipated.
The family-related stuff I mentioned then as the reason I had to miss the party was enjoyable.  It involved a short trip in which I got to visit six brick-and-mortar bookstores during a month that I had a new Superstition Mystery released–KNOCK ON WOOD.  It was enjoyable stopping in and seeing which stores carried copies that I could sign, and leaving bookmarks at them all.
Now, it’s November, and the year is quickly drawing to an end.  I’m happy to say I’m planning on attending this month’s OCC meeting.  I’d love to hear both speakers and attend PAW in the morning, too.  Guess I’ll have to make a choice for the morning, but I really love how the OCC meetings are so versatile and have something for everyone.
So, hope to see you there this month.  Thanks, OCC!

Happy Birthday, OCC!

October 6, 2015 by in category Pets, Romance & Lots of Suspense by Linda O. Johnston, Writing Conferences tagged as ,

I’m very sorry to say that I won’t be able to attend the OCC Birthday Bash next weekend. Some family-related stuff has come up, so I’ve had to cancel my reservation.

But that doesn’t mean I’ll fail to wish OCC a Happy Birthday. In fact, consider this blog my birthday wish!

I gather, from the OCC website, that this will be the chapter’s 34th birthday. That’s really exciting, especially considering that it has been, and remains, an especially dynamic chapter. We’ve got lots of published authors as well as many romance writers who are heading that direction. The chapter, and its members, have helped every one of us at whatever writing level we are. We’ve all watched and participated in how much the industry has changed over time. It’s wonderful!

I’ve been a member for over twenty years and have always loved it. I intend to remain a member for years to come, and to continue to attend as many meetings as possible. Unfortunately, it won’t include this one.

So, again, Happy Birthday, OCC. Have a wonderful celebration… without me.
